Screen Acting Diploma
AUSTRALIA'S VERY FIRST 2 Year Full-time DIPLOMA OF SCREEN ACTING
This program covers the full spectrum of skills training needed to produce a high calibre and successful screen actor. Applicants for the 2 Year full-time Diploma in Screen Acting must be 18 years of age or close to it at commencement date. Applications open 1st of September and close on the 1st of November each year.
The diploma is a 2 Year Full-time intensive acting course that also covers various Dialects, and extended acting techniques. And because theatre is also an important part of an actor's career, it covers theatre training as well as all the technical requirements an actor needs in post production.
On Graduation, the Diploma offers the students a major industry showcase comprising of a live stage performance and a screen performance presented to invited Industry Professionals including Casting Directors, Agents, Producers and Directors. The Graduates showreel which is shot on location with a professional director is presented to Agents and Casting Directors at the showcase. This Diploma attracts Government financial support (Austudy/Youth Allowance). Places are limited.
Based on the “Roberts Method”, the Diploma mixes a strong academic element with a hard-nosed professionalism. It provides total focus and immersion training in the unique skills and techniques required for screen acting to meet the demands of today’s industry.
The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) statistics show that 85% of an actor’s career-long income will be derived from television. The majority of renowned acting schools in Australia focus on ‘theatre’ with very little time given to skills and knowledge required for acting on screen. For most actors the medium of screen will be their bread and butter, as there is little in the Australian Theatre industry to sustain a life as an actor.
The Screen Acting Diploma comprises of 14 Units of Core Subjects and One Elective. The normal duration of this course is 1380 hours delivered in 20 hours per week over a two year full-time program.
